Lalor Doctors needed a professional looking site and one that they could update themselves with the latest medical news for their patients.
This was a joint project with Darrell Jones of Jones Stevenson Jones Design and Rinet IT.
Darrell did the excellent on site photography and also designed the site using Adobe Photoshop.
My job was to convert the PSD file (from Adobe Photoshop) design and photos into WordPress.
To make things "standard" and to have an excellent library of web formatting styles I went with Bootstrap. As the design was custom I decided not to use Ultimatum Theme, instead using the theme I made for www.elthamwebdesign.com from the course I did in Treehouse.
I could have used Ultimatum Theme but I think the menu would have been a stumbling block, along with many of the other pages which would need custom CSS. The large photo of the owner (I presume) would have been hard to do with Ultimatum.
Responsive design is achieved using the plugin Shortcodes Ultimate. It works well but the nesting of the rows and columns can be confusing at times. It might have been better to use the Bootstrap framework and then the div rows and columns would have been nicely highlighted. Bootstrap also offers many different ways to align your columns.
The result is a site that looks great on mobiles, tablets and desktop and laptop computers. The specialised formatting using Shortcodes Ultimate makes editing a little more difficult than I hoped. But if any help the doctors may need is only a phone call away.
The site can be viewed at www.doctorsoflalor.com.au.
