My own personal site featured my hobbies, movies that I have seen, books that I have read plus other information. It was a good way to start website building and show off your achievement to the world.
I had never heard of "uWeb" until I got an email in July 2024 from Optus informing me that the service is shutting down in August. The shutdown had already happened, and Optus probably weren't interested in restoring the service. The FTP service to change the website has been inaccessible for years.
In the email, Optus wrote, "If you've forgotten your unique page name, username or password, unfortunately our Support Team are unable to retrieve any details linked to your uWeb page." Along with Fetch TV going, and the email service hard to access now (I no longer use it to get Optus bills) it's another reason to consider moving somewhere cheaper for internet access.
My personal website using Optus' uWeb service was the first website I ever set up back in 2010, and it was my introduction to website design. Sadly, the Wayback Machine does not have a copy of http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/glenneaton/ so it's good that I got some screenshots of it.
Being hosted on an ISP account, there is no PHP or MySQL services available. The interactivity is achieved with JavaScript and some CSS. You got 5MB of space and no more!
The menus are animated with ddaccordion from Dynamic Drive.

The website is off-line as of June 2024.
